When deciding “what kind of person
should we hire?”, the basic criterion(基準、尺度),
especially for small teams like ours, is “does this person like you (the CEO or
leader)?” Since all people are driven by emotion, unless(~でない限り) they genuinely(心から、真に) feel “I
like you!”, they won’t take initiative(自発力、率先) for the sake(目的、利益) of(~のために、~の利益のために、~の目的で) the
company.
In the case of my cousin(いとこ), he used to(よく~したものだ) say, “I’ll do anything for this CEO!” and worked
proactively(前向きに、積極的に) for the company. In other words(言い換えれば、つまり), a CEO must be someone the employees genuinely
like, and if you don’t hire people who can truly respect the CEO, the company
won’t function properly(適切に、ちゃんと、正しく).
Also, when dealing with others, you should set aside(取っておいて) your
own emotions and prioritize(優先する、優先順位をつける) theirs. It’s
not about you! You need to consider the emotions of your employees first and
focus on increasing the number of people who become fans of you, the CEO, or the
leader.
Even if the person is a family
member or close relative(身内、親戚), you must inform them in advance
that, depending on the situation, there may be times when you cannot pay their
salary, as you're taking responsibility for their life. If they are still willing to
take on the challenge with you, then as the CEO, you must take full responsibility(全面責任).
To add one more thing: the key is whether the person can engage(従事する、関与する) in the
work with passion, as if it were their own, and create products and services
filled with love. Without that love, the product or service won’t lead to
innovation, let alone(~はもちろん、~は言うまでもなく) attract customers!
